The Martin Funeral Home was established in Palo Alto County in 1905 with its location being in Ayrshire, Iowa. The funeral home was owned and operated by J.J. Martin. In the early 1920's Johnny moved the funeral home to Emmetsburg. It was located on the current funeral home site.
In 1957 Johnny Martin sold the business to Dick Martin (no relative). Dick owned and operated the funeral home until 1990 when Alan Mattice joined Dick as a partner. In 1993 Alan and Tracey purchased the funeral home and are currently operating the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.
