| | | Elaine K. Cooke, passed away December 2, 2006 in Mexico, Missouri. She is survived by the love of her life, Clarence Cooke, her mother, Miriam Burg, beloved daughters, Jo Hamlin (Ralph) of Arizona, and Jeri Rouse of California. Dear sister, Betty Fitzloff (Pete) of Wyoming. Also, cherished children, Larry (Janice) Cooke of Missouri, Linda (Larry) Kraft of North Carolina and Karen (Richard) Steil of Texas, who all brought her much joy with seven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Elaine is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was much loved and will be greatly missed.
Elaine, also known as Snookie, was born December 20, 1934 in Ruthven, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm in rural Ruthven and graduated from Gillett Grove High School. Her kind spirit led her to help others and she worked at the Spencer Hospital before her marriage to Allen Rouse in 1954. This union brought Elaine to California, where he daughters were born and raised.
After raising her girls, Elaine returned to Iowa in 1979 after ending her first marriage. She enjoyed returning to her childhood hometown, and being close to her parents. Elaine worked in Spencer, and loved spending time with friends and family, and adding to her vast ladybug collection.
Elaine met Clarence Cooke in 1984, they were rarely apart since then. They married in August of 1985, and enjoyed a wonderful life of travel and togetherness. Elaine and Clarence traveled far and wide in their motor home, keeping in touch with their widespread, large family and enjoying the freedom and adventure retirement brought them. They had a home in Weslaco, Texas and spent summers in Iowa when not traveling.
