Eva Mae Laubenthal Carrigan Adams, daughter of Nick and Lucy (Schomaker) Laubenthal, was born May 4, 1916 in Emmetsburg, Iowa.
On April 19, 1937 Eva was united in marriage to Thomas Leo Carrigan at Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa. To this union eight children were born. Eva and Tom farmed between Emmetsburg and Mallard for forty three years until their retirement in 1975. They then moved to Emmetsburg. Tom died January 15, 1988. Eva was employed from 1970 until 1978 at Quality Café and then she went to work at Kathleen’s Residential Care Facility until 1982 when she retired.
Eva married A.C. “Rocky” Adams on May 5, 1990 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Eva was a member of Holy Family Parish. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting many afghans. She also liked to play BINGO and cards and go to the casinos. She loved caring for all of her grandchildren and her one special grandson, Nicholas Andrew Adams.
Eva died Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; sisters, Rena Halstead, Rose Goeders Smith, Mary Marnach, Clara Nolan, Genevieve Schealler and Loretta Olson; brothers, George Laubenthal, Louis Laubenthal and Nicholas Laubenthal; and a grandson, Doug Carrigan.
She is survived by her children, James Carrigan and his wife, Helen of Emmetsburg, IA, Kay Girres of Graettinger, IA, Tom Carrigan, Jr. and his wife, Roxanne of Emmetsburg, IA, Terry Carrigan of Tempe, Arizona, Michael Carrigan and his wife, Charlene of Sutherland, IA, Daniel Carrigan and his wife, Melanie of Eagle Grove, IA, John Carrigan and his wife, Jean Ann of Lenoir City, TN and Lerene Renee Adams and husband, Nick of Emmetsburg, IA; 33 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Gertie Lancaster of Branson, MO; as well as many other relatives and friends.
