Don Aldrich was born September 8, 1932 in Van Meter, Iowa, the son of Cecil and Ethel (Goodson) Aldrich. He graduated from Van Meter High School in 1950 and entered the Marines where he attained the rank of Sergeant.
On February 26, 1953 Don Aldrich and Arlene Stevens were married in the Methodist Church in Sioux City. They made their home and raised their family in Emmetsburg. Don retired from Jensvold Motor in 1994 after twenty five years of service where he enjoyed meeting the public as parts manager.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Earnest Lodge #399AF & AM of Emmetsburg, and Order of the Eastern Star, Evening Shade #116 of Spencer. He was also a charter member of the Five Islanders Chapter of the Family Campers and R.V.’ers Club and the In-In Group Camping Club. He was a member of the Emmans Community and Royal Neighbors. His great love of the past five years was being in NOMADS. Don and Arlene completed thirty three NOMADS projects. Because of his health their last project was in March 2006.
Don died Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. He was seventy four. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty four years, Arlene of Emmetsburg, IA; children, Darrell and wife, Carla of Manchester By the Sea, MA, Debra McLaughlin of Emmetsburg, IA, Mary Aldrich of Midlothian, VA; and Terry and wife, Sheila of Spencer, IA; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild. Also surviving is a brother, Floyd of Mason City, IA; brothers-in-law, Ron Stevens and wife, Joanne of Buffalo, MO, Jim Stevens and wife, Jane of Emmetsburg, IA, Jerry Stevens and wife, Jane of Robins, IA and sisters-in-law, Rosie Argabright and husband, Howard of Emmetsburg, IA, Susie Garlinghouse and friend, Larry of Fairmont, MN, Bre Stevens of Maryland and Ruth (Paul) Aldrich of Winterset, IA.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; brothers, Paul, Earl, and Walt; sisters-in-law, Verna (Earl) and Marilyn (Floyd).
