Duane Carl Cuklanz passed away Friday, December 29, 2006 at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 27 days. He was born on August 2, 1932 to Carl and Amanda (Hannover) Cuklanz in Terril, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Terril.
Duane graduated from the Terril Community School in 1949 at the age of 16. He served in the United States Army from 1950 until 1952 in Germany. After returning to the area he hauled livestock for Miller Trucking in Ruthven, Kirchner Trucking in Gruver and later for Webster Trucking in Jackson, Minnesota.
In 1954 Duane was united in marriage to Betty Roland. To this union two children were born, David Allen and Cheryl Ann.
After Duanes father passed away, Duane sold his semi and started farming in 1966. The family moved from town to an acreage one mile and a half from Terril and later farmed there and raised cattle.
In 1987 he purchased the farm west of Graettinger where he enjoyed farming and raising cattle until his retirement in 1998. Still needing more to do he worked another five years at Bob O Lees in Laurens until he retired for the second time. He continued to enjoy the reaping of crops helping area farmers and working in his garden.
After moving to the present farm he transferred his church membership to the Lost Island Lutheran Church.
Duane is survived by his wife, Betty of Terril, IA; his children, David and Alicia Cuklanz of Laurens, IA and Harold and Cheryl Hughes of Terril, IA. He is the proud grandpa to six grandchildren, Todd, Shelly and Crystal Cuklanz and Nicola, Melody and Jill Hughes. He is the proudest great grandpa of Macy, Tyson, twins, Collin and Kage and Tristan. He is also survived by his sister, Jolene Tennison of Oskaloosa, IA; a niece; two nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents.
