Irvin Sylvester Beiter, Jr., son of Irvin S. and Catherine (Larson) Beiter, was born June 20, 1952, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1970. Following graduation Irv attended the University of Iowa where he received his degree from the College of Pharmacy. Irv also held a mortuary science degree from the University of Minnesota.
On July 3, 1976 Irv was united in marriage to Rita Joy Berkland in Depew, Iowa. To this union two children were born.
Irv owned and operated Irv’s Pharmacy in Emmetsburg for thirty years. He also owned the Villager Pharmacy and Gift Shop in West Bend.
As a long time fan of Jimmy Buffet, Irv was one of the original Parrotheads. He loved a good time and he loved entertaining others with his magic tricks, juggling routines, unicycling and his grand fireworks displays.
The lake was a very special place for Irv and he worked hard to preserve it. He was always willing to take someone for a ride in one of his boats to show them the beauty of the lake. In the winter you could often find Irv clearing off the lake so that people in the community could ice skate or play hockey.
Irv was an honest and loving man. He loved his family beyond measure. He truly cared about the community and the people that he served, always taking time to say hello and ask how everything was going.
Irv affected the lives of countless young people. He showed such interest in them and helped them learn so many things. He taught numerous kids how to water ski, play hockey, how to learn to ride a unicycle or how to juggle. What a great gift this was to the young people in this community.
Irv was preceded in death by his son, Bruce and his parents, Irvin Sr. and Catherine.
He is survived by his wife, Rita; his daughter, April of New York City, NY; sisters, Anne Shallop and her husband, Jon of Rochester, MN and Ida Marie Moore and her husband, Eric of Tucson, Arizona; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and countless friends.
