Francis Leo Brennan, son of James C. and Elizabeth (Brennan) Brennan, was born October 4, 1916 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He attended school and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Emmetsburg.
On April 23, 1939 Francis was united in marriage to Gladys K. Rierson in Emmetsburg. To this union five children were born.
Francis owned and operated Brennan Auto Repair with his brothers John and Emmet. He was a member of Holy Family Parish where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Francis was a past member of the Emmetsburg Country Club where he enjoyed golfing and was active in the St. Patrick’s Association for many years. He was chosen to serve as Grand Marshall for the St. Patrick’s Day celebration in 19—.
On February 13, 1982 Francis was united in marriage to Betty (O’Brien) Hagen. They enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with their friends and family.
Francis died Thursday, June 2, 2005 at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Gladys on December 1, 1980; a daughter, Kathleen Brugman; four brothers, John, James, Emmet and Maurice Brennan; and six sisters, Josie Walsh, Viola Burns, Mary Ruppert, Ruth Welch, Nellie Mileham and Cecelia Clark.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Emmetsburg, IA; his children, Gerald Brennan and his wife, Betty of Spencer, IA, Pat Molloy and her husband, Bill of Santa Barbara, CA, Ellen Brown and her husband, Joe of Coralville, IA and Rosemary Sebern and her husband, Mike of Beresford, SD; a son-in-law, Rich Brugman of Emmetsburg, IA; three step children; fourteen grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; a sister, Bernice Jackson of Spencer, IA; as well as many other relatives and friends.
