Dwain Elmer Hildebrand, son of Elmer and Martha (Frisbie) Hildebrand, was born March 18, 1931, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He received his education at Emmetsburg High School. Dwain was employed at Wigdahl Hardware when he was a young boy and continued his employment there for twenty five years.

Dwain married Connie Hase and they celebrated forty two years of marriage. They made their home in Emmetsburg. Dwain later worked at Pamline and the City of Emmetsburg. After Pamline closed Dwain started a business out of his home, with Terry Sorenson, building pressure washers.

Dwain loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and trapping. He also enjoyed doing woodworking projects in his shop. Dwain had a real soft spot in his heart for any stray cat that wandered into his yard. He made sure they were fed and healthy before they moved on, spreading the word to others that it was a great place to call home. Dwain had recently taken up photography and enjoyed making creative projects from his photographs. His family, as well as doctors and nurses who cared for Dwain, benefitted from his creativity. He was also a huge fan of Willie Nelson and country music and he loved to watch John Wayne movies.

Dwain passed away Monday, February 27, 2012, at his home in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson; a great granddaughter; and a sister, Donna Cole.

He is survived by his wife, Connie of Emmetsburg, Iowa; his children, Sandy Hildebrand of Iowa City, Iowa, Sharon Alderson of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Karen Lechner of Columbia, Missouri, Karen Hamman of Fairmont, Minnesota and Karla Alderson of Loveland, Colorado; twelve grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; a sister, Twila Iverson of Clinton, Iowa; an uncle, Clarence “Bud” Frisbie of Emmetsburg, Iowa; an aunt, Elna Hylland of Lake Mills, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be given to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center in Iowa City or to ASPCA, an organization that aids in the rescue and shelter of homeless and abused animals.
