  VIEW/SEND CONDOLENCES

Dennis was born January 15, 1940, in Buffalo Center, Iowa. He and Virginia Varcoe were married at the Methodist Church in Emmetsburg in 1963. They raised three sons in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Dennis worked for General Motors, working on the Apollo space program and later manufacturing car components. When Dennis retired in 1989, he and Virginia divided their time between Hot Springs, Arkansas, and the Florida Keys, eventually living full-time on Little Torch Key, Florida. In 2001, they moved to the Miami area, most recently to the 41st floor of a waterfront, downtown Miami condominium.

Dennis, above all, loved his family. He delighted in buying gifts, going to visit, and communicating via email with his six grandchildren. He was an excellent photographer and an avid world traveler. He and Virginia had recently enjoyed several trips exploring Central and South America with their son Scott. Dennis died May 17, 2009, in Split, Croatia, while on a Mediterranean cruise with Virginia and their son Brian and family.

He is survived by Virginia and their three sons and their families: Mark and Jane, Jenna, Wyatt, Julia and Carli of San Antonio, Texas; Scott of Santa Rosa, California; Brian and Bobbie, Jonathan and Katherine of St. Joseph, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his mother Arlene Gilbert Cronk, step-father Joy Cronk, and father Harry Thorsheim. He is also survived by two brothers, Charles Cronk of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and Bill Cronk of Alexandria, MN.

Memorial gifts may be sent to the First United Methodist Churh Miami, 400 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, FL 33132 or your favorite charity.
