Ida Emma Baedke
October 28, 1921 - June 20, 2009

Ida Emma (Wolff) Baedke was born October 28, 1921 in Avery, Oklahoma to Julius and Martha Wolff. Ida grew up in Oklahoma with five brothers and ten sisters. She was introduced to Paul Baedke by her sister who married Paul’s uncle from the Ruthven area. Paul and Ida were married in Terril, Iowa on January 14, 1941.

Paul farmed in the Ruthven/Terril area while Ida worked for Glen and Grace Forney in their café from 1955 –1960. In 1961 Ida purchased the café from the Forney’s and operated it under the name Hi-Way Café from 1961 until 1978. Becoming a family venture, many hours were spent by Ida, Paul, Nancy, Barb, & Jerry making this a very successful business. After selling the café in 1978, Ida worked for Marv Wigdahl at Wigdahl Hardware and part time at the Thunderbird Restaurant, and also made salads for Sanculli’s grocery store.

In 1992 Ida and Nancy moved to Texas to be closer to Jerry, Jane, and Julie. Ida moved into Life Care of Plano in 2004 after breaking a hip from a fall. She loved being with her family and friends and also enjoyed playing cards and board games. In her later years, Ida’s eyesight began to diminish, but her love for the Lord kept her eyes focused on Jesus Christ. Ida’s faith was a testimony to many she came in contact with. She was a prayer warrior for many.

Ida died, with her family by her side, on Saturday, June 20th at Life Care of Plano, Plano, TX, at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul in January 1976; a daughter, Barbara in 1967; 7 sisters and 5 brothers.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Baedke of Plano, TX, a son Jerry and his wife Jane (Anderson) Baedke of Plano, TX, one granddaughter, Julie and her husband Jason Brooks of Allen, TX and one great grandson, Brandon Brooks of Allen, TX; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Darlene & Harold Baedke of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Norma Jacobs of Kansas City, KS, and Velma and Don Brown of Cushing, OK, as well as many other relatives and friends.
