Coletta M. Currans, daughter of Leonard and Mae (Kaeller) Kunz, was born March 1, 1917 near Mallard, Iowa. She received her education in Mallard graduating from Mallard High School in 1935.
Coletta was employed as a telephone operator in Emmetsburg and later worked at Bankers Insurance office in Chicago. Coletta attended the Chicago School of Dentistry graduating in 1963 as a dental nurse.
On September 21, 1963 Coletta was united in marriage to B. Francis Currans. They lived on the Currans farm, near Ruthven, until their retirement. They moved to Emmetsburg in the fall of 1971.
Coletta was a member of Holy Family Parish in Emmetsburg. While living in the Ruthven area Coletta was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Okihi Club in Ruthven.
Coletta enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She made many afghans and doilies as well as sweaters, mittens and caps which she gave to friends and family. When Coletta was younger she did a lot of sewing, making most of her own clothing. She also loved gardening and cooking.
Coletta died Friday, June 5, 2009 at the Emmetsburg Care Center at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis on June 18, 1993; and five brothers, Harold, Howard, Elmer, Vincent and Leo Kunz.
She is survived by four brothers, Leonard Kunz of Yuma, Arizona, Raymond Kunz and his wife, Donna of Emmetsburg, Iowa, LeRoy Kunz and his wife, Betty of Emmetsburg, Iowa, and Richard Kunz and his wife, Leona of Emmetsburg, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
