Elaine Bernadette Conlon, daughter of Edward and Bernadette (McDonough) Kajewski, was born July 9, 1930 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She received her education in Emmetsburg graduating from Emmetsburg High School. Following graduation, Elaine attended Nurses Training at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge where she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1951.

On January 15, 1952 Elaine was united in marriage to Thomas J. Conlon at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger. To this union four children were born.

Elaine was employed as a nurse in area hospitals and nursing homes. She worked at the Palo Alto County Hospital for many years and was instrumental in the community health program. She served on the County Health Board for Palo Alto County.

Elaine was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society in Ayrshire and was a past member of Catholic Daughters of America. She was a member of the Retired Nurses Group as well as a member of the Birthday Club in Ayrshire and Great Oak Card Club.

Elaine was very proud of her nursing profession and took great pride in caring for all of her patients. She enjoyed quilting and doing needlework. She was an avid reader and always stayed attuned to political issues. Elaine loved watching sporting events rarely missing a Twins game. Her first love was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Elaine joined Tom on their fifty seventh wedding anniversary. She passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Iowa Health Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom; a son, James Conlon; a brother, James Kajewski; and a sister, Kay Jones.

She is survived by her children, Joe Conlon and his wife, Joann of Allison, IA, John Conlon and his wife, Cathy of Waterloo, IA, Julie Williamson and her husband, Rich of Ruthven, IA and daughter-in-law, Karen Conlon of Spencer, IA; her grandchildren, Chris Goede and his wife, Eriko, Stephanie Harris and her husband, Jason, Ryan Conlon, Cara Bockes and her husband, Seth, Matthew Conlon and his wife, Molly, Renae Brandle and her husband, Bill, Laci Williamson, Nicole Williamson, Zachary Williamson and Bryce Williamson; great grandchildren, Brenen Harris, Lincoln Harris, Nora Bockes and Hudson Williamson; two sisters, RoseAnn Jacobs of Fulton, MO and Mary Ellen Benz of Mallard, IA ; as well as many other relatives and friends.
