Arlene (Heighton) Boblit, daughter of Roy and Ella (Burke) Heighton, was born October 6, 1917 in Milford, Iowa. She attended school at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Milford and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Emmetsburg.

On October 6, 1937 Arlene was united in marriage to Earl Hoben in Emmetsburg, Iowa. To this union six children were born. Arlene and Earl farmed near Ayrshire and Ruthven before moving into Ruthven. Earl passed away March 16, 1970.

Arlene married Gene Boblit in Ruthven on June 2, 1973. Arlene worked at Schurg Grocery Store and later at Hoben Sundries. She then worked for Maurice Brennan, as a bookkeeper, at Brennan Electric in Emmetsburg.

Arlene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven where she was active in Ladies Guild. She enjoyed dancing and listening to music. Arlene also liked playing Solitaire and reading books.

Arlene died Friday, December 5, 2008 at the Ruthven Community Care Center at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Earl Hoben and Gene Boblit; a sister, Gwen Kelly; son, Jim Hoben; grandson, Quint Dyer; great granddaughter, Melissa Storey; and son-in-law, Francis Baloun.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Baloun of Lakefield, MN, Ellen Hoben of Ruthven, IA, Shirley (Roger) Krieg of Ruthven, IA, Martha (Ken) Dyer of Ruthven, IA and Bill (Julie) Hoben of Iowa City, IA; twenty one grandchildren; forty four great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Joan Hoben of Laurens, IA; step children, Jim (Sarah) Boblit of Bettendorf, IA, Mike (Carol) Boblit of Davenport, IA, Tom (Susan) Boblit of Spencer, IA, Bill Boblit of Emmetsburg, IA, Jerry Boblit of Richmond, WI, and Barbara (Richard) Larson of Ruthven, IA; as well as many other relatives and friends.
