Evangeline Harriet, daughter of Lewis Sandvig and Dorthea (Herberg) Bondhus Sandvig, was born on February 16, 1920 in Graettinger, Iowa and departed this life on October 22, 2008 at the age of 88.

She received her education in Graettinger schools and graduated from Graettinger High School in 1937. Harriet then attended Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa where she sang in the Waldorf Choir graduating with a teaching degree in 1940. After graduation, Harriet taught in rural schools, including a one-room school house a mile from her current home.

On December 20, 1941, Harriet was united in marriage to Harold Harley Brady in Lake Mills, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Jerry, Pat, John and Barb. Harold served in World War II and after the war they resided in Emmetsburg where Harold worked as an airplane instructor at the airport. The family moved to the Brady farm outside of Ruthven in 1949.

Harriet was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in ladies circles and Federated Women’s Club. She and Harold were active in golfing, participating in Couples and Women’s leagues. Harriet was a volunteer at Lakeside Lutheran Home where she had been a past board member. She was also a member of the Ruthven American Legion Auxiliary. Harriet worked for several years at the Younkers Department Store in Spencer.

Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; and two sisters, Leona Lehman and Melvina Rasmussen.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Jerry and Jan Brady of Augusta, KS, Patricia and Bruce Spurlock of Ankeny, IA, John and Marge Brady of Jefferson City, MO and Dr. Barbara and Ray Allen of Thousand Oaks, CA; her grandchildren, Kim (Spurlock) Sheehan of Ankeny, IA, Scott Brady of Worcester, NY, Wendy (Brady) Auman of Lincoln, NE, Todd Spurlock of Ankeny, IA, Jill Brady of Gainesville, FL, Micahel Brady of Alamogordo, NM, Kelli (Brady) Wagner of Loveland, CO and Kyle Brady of Emporia, KS; a brother-in-law, Gene Brady and his wife, Marilyn of Perry, IA.
