Olivia Cullen (Kuhlmann), the daughter of Gisela Bannies (Kuhlmann) was born on September 26, 1955 in the North Sea city of Bremerhaven, Germany.
Olivia attended school in Bremerhaven and completed an apprenticeship in Logistical Import/Export and worked for both German and American companies in this port city by the sea. After the birth of her first child, Brian, she was a loving mother working at home. In March of 1985, she was married to George Cullen Jr. of Emmetsburg, Iowa. They met while George was in the Army and stationed in Garlstadt, Germany. In November 1989, their daughter Ashley was born.
In February 1990, they were transferred to Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. After two years in Missouri, they were transferred to Scholfield Barracks, Hawaii. In August 1995, they were stationed back in Germany. While back in Germany, she accompanied George to various assignments; from the Grafenwoehr Training Area in Grafenwoehr, Germany, to Leighton Barracks, Wurzburg, Germany and finally to Mainz, Germany.
Olivia never lost her love for her hometown of Bremerhaven, she and her family traveled there often for the maritime flair this port city has to offer. Olivia especially loved the fresh sea breeze and the sound of sea gulls in the morning. Olivia’s zest for life and unselfishness will always be remembered by those who know her.
Olivia was diagnosed with cancer in 1993 and courageously battled three separate occurrences of this disease. In October 2007, cancer again reared its ugly head. Sadly, Olivia lost this battle and was taken from us on 29 November, 2007.
Olivia leaves behind a son Brian, a daughter Ashley and her husband, George, all presently living in Mainz, Germany. Also remaining to carry on her memory is her mother Gisela in Bremerhaven and a great aunt and uncle in Bremen, Germany.
