Marie V. Allen, daughter of Thomas Foy and Mary Elizabeth (Sanders) Paden, was born April 23, 1918. She attended country school #9 in Great Oak Township. Marie worked for the Vernes Farrell family and helped raise their boys.
On February 20, 1946 Marie was united in marriage to Harold G. Allen at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Laurens, Iowa. To this union a daughter was born.
Marie was a loving wife and mother and a devoted homemaker. She worked at the Congregate Meals in Laurens for over twenty years and later worked at the Laurens Nursing Home in the kitchen. Marie was a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society in Laurens and currently a member of Holy Family Parish in Emmetsburg. She was a member of the Laurens American Legion Auxiliary.
Marie loved gardening and especially her flowers. She enjoyed fishing with Harold and later she and her sister, Kate would go bullhead fishing.
Marie died Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold on April 24, 1985; three brothers, John Paden, Henry “Bud” Paden and Robert Paden; two sisters, Catherine Dennis and Bessie Paden.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Terese Allen of Omaha, Nebraska; two sisters, Helen Paden of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Rose Hill of Curlew, Iowa; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
