Martha M. (Ratliff) Emberton, age 89 passed away on October 14, 2009 at Bloomington Hospital. She was a resident of Brown County.

Martha was born March 12, 1920 in Johnson County to the late Charles and Ada (Roberts) Ratliff. She married Robert W. Emberton on December 26, 1936 in Martinsville. He preceded her in death after 57 loving years on July 30, 1993.

Martha is survived by four daughters: Janice Gentry and her husband James of Green Cove Springs, FL, Doris Spoonamore and her husband Philip of Freetown, Barbara White and her husband Daniel of Bloomington & Vickie Poynter of St. Petersburg, FL; two sons: Curtis Emberton and his wife Julia of Brown County & David Emberton and his wife Melony of Columbus; one sister: Lorene Smith of Franklin;13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren & one great-great grandchild

She was preceded in death by one son: William Dale Emberton; six sisters: Bessie Ross, Ona Wilkinson, Rosa Whetstine, Maggie Morris, Pauline Coffman & Mary Mitchell; five brothers: Robert, James, Jesse, Melvin & Thomas Ratliff.

She was a loving wife and homemaker. Martha was a 50 year member of the Spearsville Wesleyan Church where she was a former Sunday School Teacher, pianist, trustee and secretary. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and reading her Bible. Martha loved playing the piano and spending time with her grandchildren.

The Rev. Troy Shaffer will conduct a funeral service 10:30 am Monday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 3 PM to 7 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Spearsville Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Brown County.
