Jack L. Voiles, age 66 passed away at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on Sunday morning, October 4, 2009 with the courage, grace and dignity that he displayed throughout his life. He was a lifelong resident of Morgantown.

Jack was born September 21, 1943 in Martinsville to the late Gaile Wayne and Marguerite (Norman) Voiles. He lives in the heart of Shirley A. (Gaulden) Voiles his wife, best friend and life companion of 43 years whom he married on September 9, 1966 in Trafalgar. Shirley survives in Morgantown.

Jack was a 1961 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to study Engineering at Purdue University in Lafayette. He served his country as a Specialist 5th Class with the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

In 1978 Jack became a member of Gideons International, serving in the local prison ministry and supporting the Gideon’s work worldwide. He also was a member of the Morgantown Baptist Church. Jack enjoyed visiting different Lighthouses while traveling with his wife. He also enjoyed woodworking, photography, ham radio, classic cars, fishing and flying as a private pilot.

Jack was best known for his role as owner and President of Gaile’s Gas & Electric, which was established by his parents in 1948. Jack oversaw the expansion of the company as Gaile’s Propane in Morgantown and the establishment of Gaile’s Gas Transports, and the later acquisition of County Gas in Bloomington.

Jack was much loved by his four children: Ann McClary and her husband Martin of Trafalgar, Paul Voiles and his wife Jeannie of Morgantown, Karen Ward and her husband Tom of Morgantown & Mark Voiles and his wife Sarah of Martinsville. He will be remembered by his sister: Betty Hayworth and her husband Max of Morgantown and Cherished by his nine grandchildren: Mesha & Mariah McClary, Cami Voiles, Kristina, William & Natalie Ward and Hope, Vivian & Zachary Voiles.

The Rev. Ben Swopes will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 am, Thursday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville with military graveside rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards.
