| | | Fairbee C. (Henderson) Dowell - Smith, age 97 passed away Monday afternoon, August 24, 2009 at the Brown County Health & Living Community in Nashville. She was a resident of Brown County.
Fairbee was born May 9, 1912 in Greenville, MS to the late Eli and Effie (Adams) Henderson. She married her loving husband Henry W. Dowell on April 16, 1927 in Brown County. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1972.
Survivors include five daughters: Betty L. Fleetwood of Morgantown, Lois A. Ackerman of Martinsville, Doris I. (Harold) Cox of Nashville, Sara S. (Larry) Johnston of Morgantown and Linda K. (Lew) Worcel of Nashville; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren & twenty-nine great-great grandchildren.
Fairbee was preceded in death by two sons: Allen & Robert W. Dowell; one daughter: Lilly Mae Dowell; three brothers: Frank, Fred & Forrest Henderson; grandsons: Lee Fleetwood & Dennis Beauchamp, one great granddaughter: Elizabeth A. Toodles Fleetwood and a second husband: Ralph Smith.
She was a loving mother and homemaker. Fairbee worked as a Sorter for the Apple Orchard in Brown County during the 1950s. She then worked as a Baker for the Nashville House in Brown County for 15 years during the 1970s and 80s. She retired during the 1980s as a Bus Driver for the Brown County School District after eight years of service.
Fairbee was a 15 year member of the Cottonwood Christian Church in Brown County and enjoyed sewing, quilting and babysitting. She loved working in her flower & vegetable gardens and canning.
The Rev. Darrel Miller will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 am Friday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lanam Ridge Cemetery in Brown County.
Memorial contributions may be made to the South Central Hospice of Indiana, 2626 E. 17th St. Columbus, IN 47201.
