Merrill M. Schrougham, age 87 passed away peacefully Tuesday morning August 4, 2009, after a courageous 10 year battle with Alzheimer’s, surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Morgantown.

He was born May 14, 1922 in Brown County to the late Omar and Alta (Clark) Schrougham. He married his devoted wife of 67 years, Edna (Seal) Schrougham on December 20, 1941 in Nashville. She lovingly survives.

Merrill is survived by four daughters: Merrileen, and her husband Kenneth Patrick of Brown County, Kay, and her husband Ted Anderson of Greenwood, Patricia Schrougham of Scottsdale, AZ and Lois, and her husband Steven Wyrick of Greenwood; two sisters: Eva (Floyd) Ford and Faye (Ray) Johnson all of Greenwood; two brothers: Edwin “Pete” (Doris) Schrougham of Nashville and Max (Veda) Schrougham of Trafalgar; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers: Ralph, Clovis, Raymond and Warren Schrougham.

Merrill served his country as a Private with the United States Army during World War II.
He was retired from farming in Brown County and owned and operated an Excavation Company. Merrill also drove a school bus for Brown County Schools.
He was a past Brown County Commissioner, former Superintendent of the Brown County Highway Department and a past Hamblen Township Trustee. Merrill was a member of the Spearsville Wesleyan Church and enjoyed tending to his garden, fishing and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

The Rev. Albert Hendershot will conduct a funeral service 2 PM Saturday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from noon until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown. Military graveside rites will be presented by the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards.

Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Merrill to the Franklin Church of the Nazarene “Children’s Program” 140 W. Branigin Rd. Franklin, IN 46131 or the Vista Care Hospice, 6431 S. East Street Indianapolis, IN 46227
