| | | Marjorie M. (Lawson) Derringer, age 84 passed away peacefully in her sleep at her daughters home in Brown County on Thursday morning, July 9, 2009. She was a resident of Brown County.
Marjorie was born January 16, 1925 in Brown County to the late Riley W. and Grace (Bay) Lawson. She married Verlis C. Derringer on July 3, 1950 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on August 18, 1989.
She worked as a professional Seamstress retiring after 29 ½ years of service. Marjorie sewed several pioneer dresses for local members of the Pioneer Women for the Bicentennial Celebration in 1976 and sewed each of her daughters wedding dresses and sewed most of her childrens clothes as they were growing up. She was known for her crocheted rag rugs and her handmade quilts having made one for each of her children and grandchildren. Marjorie loved working in her garden, canning, cooking and baking. She was a member of the Goshen Community Church in Brown County and enjoyed reading her Bible and attending church. Most of all she enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marjorie was a loving mother to three daughters: Mary Ruth (Bill) Fox and Becky (Mike) Smith both of Brown County & Margi Underwood of Bloomington; one son: Bill (Lu) Derringer of Columbus; ten grandchildren: Joe Fox, David (Denise) Fox, Sarah Fox, Micah (Sara) Fox, Scott (Mechelle McKorkle) Derringer, Josh Derringer, Shaunna (Mark) Scutchfield, Holly (Ben) Jackson, Kristy (Darren) Harden and Ashley (Travis) Walden; nine great-grandchildren: Elijah, Brittany, Becki, Devon, Tiler, Nathaniel, Aiden, Kailyn and Samuel; two sisters: Edella McAnelly of Loxley, AL & Mabel Brockman of Bowling Green, KY; three sisters-n-law and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers: Allen, Charlie, Frank, Jim and Dale Lawson; two infant sisters: Opal Leona Ruth and Pearlie Mae Lawson; two infant sons: James Ray and Daniel Asa Derringer.
The Rev. Barb Wood will conduct a funeral service 10:30 am Monday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm on Sunday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Brown County.
