| | | Bill Douglass age 86, passed away Monday, June 15, 2009, at Arbor House Assisted Living Center in Lewisville, Texas. He was a resident of Lewisville, TX and a former eighty-five year resident of Indiana. Bill was born in Johnson County on August 2, 1922 to the late William A. Douglass Sr. and Lola Mae (Paris) Douglass. He married his loving wife of sixty-five years, Clara Jane (Burgett) Douglass on December 26, 1943.
Bill was the devoted father of Sue Ellen Bradigan-Trujillo of Acton, CA, Rosalie Douglass of Carrollton, TX, and Pamela Jean Zirkle of Amarillo, TX; grandpa to four grandchildren: Sean P. Hall, Michael D. Bradigan, Amanda Zirkle Morrison, and Jonathan W. Zirkle. He is survived by his sister: Sara Dell Ely of Coeur d’Alene, ID; sister-in-law: Mae Jones Burgett of Bargarsville, IN; son-in-laws: Ted Trujillo, Joseph Barbone, and Jeff Zirkle and many loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Clara Jane Douglass on February 22, 2008 and one sister: Marion Ragsdale.
Bill retired as the minister of a number of Disciples of Christ Christian Churches in Indiana after twenty years of service. He then served as chaplain for the Kennedy Living Center in Martinsville. Bill was a member of the Morgantown First Christian Church and a charter member of the Westview Christian Church in Indianapolis.
Bill had a love for nature and animals. During his lifetime, he raised Holstein cattle, and a number of cocker spaniels and collies. Farming in Johnson County for years, Bill continued to raise vegetables, fruit and flowers in gardens most of his life.
The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a Celebration of Life Service 2 pm Saturday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends may call from 1 pm till service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
