| | | Rachel Lynn Elrod, age 23 passed away Tuesday morning, May 12, 2009 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. She was a resident of Morgantown.
Rachel was born May 22, 1985 in Indianapolis to Thomas Earl and Vicki Lynn (Burton) Elrod.
She was a 2003 graduate of Indian Creek High School in Trafalgar and went on to earn her Certified Nursing Assistant Degree. She used her degree to help the elderly in Nursing Homes around Johnson County, as well as, a Visiting Nurse. Rachel loved those she cared for and became a part of their family.
She was known as the life of the party and if you were her friend then, you were her best friend. Rachel was always laughing and making others feel good about themselves. She never met a stranger and was always there to help. Rachel had a passion for children and loved her nieces & nephew: Mollibeth Henney & Elijah Easton Elrod both of Elizabethtown and Nakiya Leigh Smith of Franklin. She loved spending time with her family at Lake Lemon boating and sailing with her father. Rachel’s best friend was her mother and they inspired each other with movie night, dancing, talking and being there for each other.
Rachel was a member of the First Christian Church of Morgantown. She participated in Cheerleading at Indian Creek since Kindergarten and played softball. Rachel enjoyed being on MySpace, reading and socializing with her friends. She worked at John Wayne’s Pub & Eatery in Franklin, where she worked as Server.
Rachel will be remembered by her loving parents: Tom and Vicki Elrod of Morgantown; missed by her two brothers: Gideon Thomas Elrod of Franklin and Elijah Jay Elrod of Morgantown; cherished by maternal grandparents: Donald & Sheila Ellis of New Palestine and paternal grandmother: Caroline Elrod of Indianapolis; several Aunts and Uncles.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather: Earl Edwin Elrod.
The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service 10:30 am Saturday at the First Christian Church of Morgantown, 2717 S. Morgantown Road. Friends may call from 4 to 9 pm on Friday at the church and from 9:30 am till service time on Saturday. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
