| | | Larry O. “Bullwhip” Griffith, age 69 passed away Friday April 24, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a long time resident of Morgantown.
Larry was born March 22, 1940 in Indianapolis to the late Rev. Walter O. & Bernice (Moore) Griffith. He married his loving wife of forty-three years Shirley E. (Poyner) Griffith on August 29, 1965 at the Methodist Church in Morgantown.
He was a very caring father to two daughters Tina and her husband Dennis Zurchler of Franklin & Sonya and her husband Jon Boyd of Indianapolis and to one son Justin Griffith of Morgantown. Larry was a loving grandfather to his three grandsons: Dalton & Connor Boyd & Jerrod Griffith. He will be remembered by one sister: Shirley Catron of Indianapolis & one brother in law: Cecil Poyner of Franklin.
Larry was preceded in death by a daughter Michelle Annette Griffith in 1967.
He was a member of the Morgantown United Methodist Church. Larry enjoyed NASCAR racing of which his favorite drivers were Tony Stewart & Dale Earnhardt Jr. He also was a fan Of IU Basketball.
Larry retired in 1999 from Indiana Department of Transportation as a truck driver, out of the Columbus district. Prior to that, he worked for Tousley-Bixler Construction Co. in Indianapolis from 1966 to 1981. He also served as a Police Officer for The Mooresville Police Dept. from 1963-1966 and later served as a reserve Deputy for the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department from 1968 to 1974.
The Rev. Roy Ice will conduct a funeral service 1:00 PM on Tuesday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center , 179 E Mulberry St. in Morgantown Friends may call from 11:00 AM until time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Larry to the “Memorial Fund” of the Morgantown United Methodist Church, PO Box 226 Morgantown, IN 46160.
