James Wilbur Cooper, 88, Morgantown, died Feb. 26, 2005, at his residence.

The son of the late Paul Wilbur and Grace (Weaver) Cooper, he was born Jan. 23, 1917, in Morgan County. His wife, Phyllis L. (Kiphart) Cooper, whom he married Oct. 22, 1966, survives.

Cooper retired in 1998 from farming. He and his wife owned Cooper Farms since 1946.

He also traveled around the state setting up his animals in petting zoos and participated in numerous parades throughout the state with his wagon and ponies. He and his wife also participated in the 1965 Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, Calif.

He was a member of the Morgantown Masonic Lodge 358 since 1950. He served as past master and the treasurer for over 20 years. He was a past patron of the Morgantown Eastern Star and a member for 30 years; Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine; Morgantown High School Alumni Committee; 15-year member Ding-A-Ling Square Dance.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II as a PFC and driving a supply truck for the infantry division.

He was a 1935 Morgantown High School Class.

He received recognition from the town of Morgantown for his outstanding dedication to the Memorial Day Parade and from the Morgantown High School Alumni Association for his outstanding service through the years.



He enjoyed raising horses and showing them at the Indiana State Fair.

He was a member of many saddle clubs and enjoyed watching the Indiana Pacers.

Other survivors include a brother, William P. Cooper, Indianapolis.

The service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown. The Rev. Jim Tharpe will officiate. Burial with military graveside rites will be conducted by the Martinsville VFW and American Legion Honor Guard in East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Morgantown Masonic Lodge will conduct a Masonic service Tuesday at the funeral home.
