Valentina I. (Petro) Campbell, 81, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at her residence in Brown County.
She was born April 26, 1923, in Bloomington. Her parents were Alexander and Gladys (Turnmire) Petro. She married Curtis W. Campbell. He preceded her in death Oct. 4, 1979. Survivors include two daughters, Mary F. Wagers of Brown County and Tammy E. Cravens of North Vernon; two sons, Steve N. and Danny C. Campbell, both of Brown County; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy K. Campbell; two brothers, Ivory and Leonard Petro; and two stepbrothers, Brian and Cecil Petro.
She graduated from Helmsburg High School in 1940.
She was employed by Camp Atterbury as a cook and in laundry during World War II. She also worked with her husband on the family farm, growing tobacco for more than 50 years.
She enjoyed reading, working in her vegetable garden and playing euchre.
The Rev. Sam Harrington will conduct a service at 11 a.m. Friday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation and Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Goshen Cemetery in Brown County.
