| | | Lennis A. “Lennie” Baughman passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, September 9, 2008 surrounded by his family at Indiana University Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis at age 84. He was a resident of Brown County.
Lennie was born June 19, 1924, in Helmsburg to the late Millard Ray and Maunice (Hurdle) Baughman. He and Judith M. (Gregory) Baughman were married 65 years, from October 11, 1942. She survives.
Lennie is also survived by his son and best friend Jim and his wife Jennifer of Jackson, WY.
He was preceded in death by his son Greg.
Lennie retired after 26 years as the Manager of the Waycross Episcopal Camp & Conference Center in Brown County in 1989. Prior to that he worked at Eli Lilly in Indianapolis.
He was a Charter Member of the St. David’s Episcopal Church in Brown County, past President and Board Member of the Brown County Water Utility and past Board Member for the Brown County School Corporation. Other memberships include: JC’s and Elk’s, and was a Scout Master of the Boy Scouts in Morgantown during the 1950’s.
Lennie was known for his great sense of humor and he and his wife enjoyed entertaining and visiting with friends and family. Lennie was a fan of Indiana University Sports, IRL and NASCAR Racing, and all sports in general. He played, coached, and refereed basketball games for several years, and played semi pro baseball. He was asked to report to the Cleveland Indians spring training Camp in 1942.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm on Friday evening September 12th at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. The Rev. Jonathan Hutchison will conduct a Celebration of Life Service and Re-Dedication of the Outdoor Chapel Services at 3:00 PM on September 28th at the Waycross Episcopal Camp & Conference Center, 7363 Bear Creek Road in Brown County.
