Mary “Kathleen” (Jones) Bevel, 83, of Bargersville, formerly of Morgantown, died May 11, 2008, at her residence.

Born June 12, 1924, in Macon County, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late William and Minnie (Ford) Jones.

She married Lenzie A. Bevel on Sept. 7, 1946, in Franklin, Ky. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2007.

She was a homemaker. She had worked as a waitress during the late 1970s at Kathy’s Cafe in Morgantown. Prior to that she worked as a receptionist for Dr. Snider in Brown County during the 1960s. During World War II she worked as a welder for Arvin Industries in Franklin.

She was a 22-year member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Trafalgar, where she helped in the nursery and was a member of the cooking team.

She enjoyed caring for stray dogs and cats and feeding the birds. She also enjoyed needlepoint, gardening and reading about history. In her younger years she played the guitar and sang in a band.

Survivors include three daughters, June Perry of Hampton, Ga., Jan Lindstrom of Bargersville and Kathy Goss of Morgantown; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Willie Mai Tuck, and two brothers, William Jessie and Homer Alexander Jones.

The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown. The Rev. James Brown, the Rev. Jeff Hopson and the Rev. Eddie Law will officiate.

Visiting hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
