Alfred R. “Bud” Baird, age 84 passed away Saturday morning, January 26, 2008 surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Morgantown.

Bud was born March 22, 1923, in Indianapolis, to the late Clyde and Mary Elizabeth (Mitchell) Baird. He married his loving wife of 65 years Susan Peats (Weaver) Baird on September 19, 1942 in Jeffersonville. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons: Michael C. (Karen) Baird of Bargersville, Malcolm C. “Buz” Baird of Morgantown; two daughters: Kitty Leigh (Teddy) Sichting of Morgantown & Tamara Marlene (Fred) Wampler of Bloomington; one brother: James Timothy (Noreen) Baird of Trafalgar; one sister: Anna Mae Jensen of Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren & one great-great grandchild.

Preceded in death by two brothers: Phillip Baird & John W. Baird; one sister: Kate Wardwell.

Bud served with the United States Navy from 1937 to 1940 then with the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 during World War II.

Bud was the owner and operator of the Silver Stallion Resturant in Morgantown from 1975 to 1985. He also owned Baird´s Furniture Store in Morgantown for four years. Prior to that he retired in 1968 from Civil Service as the Fire Chief at Camp Atterbury. Bud also worked as the Fire Marshall for Westinghouse in Indianapolis for twenty years.

He enjoyed rabbit and squirrel hunting and his true passion was raising his Arabian Horses.

There will be no funeral services for Bud.
