| | | Allen E. Chitwood, age 81 passed away Wednesday morning, January 16, 2008 at his residence in Brown County. He was a former resident of Morgantown.
Born April 22, 1926 in Brown County, he was the son of the late Ira and Ella (McCoy) Chitwood. Allen married his loving wife of 46 years Jean Logsdon on December 23, 1961 in Morgantown. She survives.
Other survivors include: three daughters: Sandra Chitwood - Moore of North Vernon, Alana (Craig) Porritt & Marylin (Earl) Chitwood - Thomas all of Brown County; one sister: Glodine Lawson of Brown County; five grandchildren: Bronson Taylor, Trever Chitwood, Shyla Moore, Sarah Porritt and Josh Barger; two great grandchildren: Dawson & Stetson Taylor.
Allen was preceded in death by two sisters: Mabel Fritch & Rosebelle Ruggles; two brothers: Donald & Walter Chitwood.
He served as a Seaman 1st Class with the United States Navy from 1944 to 1949.
Allen was a Union Carpenter from 1955 till his retirement in 1977 with the AFLCIO Carpenters Local #60 in Indianapolis.
He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and was a fan of the Indiana Pacers and Indiana University Basketball. He also enjoyed reading history books & geography books and loved to spend time with his family.
The Rev. Darrell Miller will conduct a Celebration of Life Service 3 PM Saturday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown.
Friends may call Saturday from 2:00 PM until time of service at the funeral home.
