Klingville
Melvin A. Jurva, 80, a resident of Klingville & Hancock, passed away Monday evening, Sept. 29, 2003, at the Cypress Manor Nursing Home in Hancock, where he had been a resident patient since January of 1997.
Prior to that he had been a patient at the Stillwaters Community Elders Home in Calumet.
Melvin was born on May 25, 1923, in Hancock, a son of the late August and Hildur (Juntunen) Jurva. As a youth he moved to Onnela, and then to Klingville. He later lived in Pontiac and Auburn Hills.
He had attended the Onnela school and was a graduate of the Chassell High School. He also received an associate degree from Oakland University, and a Law Degree from LaSalle Institute.
Mr. Jurva had worked for General Motors Corporation at the G.M. Truck & Coach Plant. He also was a former Justice of Peace of Avon Township, a Reserve Deputy Sheriff of Oakland County, and a Reserve Fireman for Auburn Heights.
Melvin was a life long member of the Finnish Cultural Center of Farmington Hills and life member of the Calumet Elks Club.
Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant brother, Sulo Alvar, and a Sister, Ruth Patterson.

Roy ( Ruth) Jurva of Twin Lakes
Gerald Jurva of Detroit
Jack Jurva of Farmington Hills
numeorus nieces, nephews, and cousins
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 A.M. at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Paul Anderson to officiate. Burial to be in the Oskar Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 A.M. until time of services at the church on Thursday.
The Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock is serving the family. For Friends & Relatives that can not attend the services, they are welcome to go to www.memorialchapel.net to send condolences to the family.
