Edith Alice Florida, of Warren, Ohio died at Gillette Nursing Home in Warren on her 101st birthday, Friday, October 16, 2009. Born October 16, 1908 in New Castle, Pa., she was the daughter of Joseph T. and Bertha Annie (Brookes) Booth, and had lived in Trumbull County since 1971, coming from New Castle.

A 1926 graduate of New Castle High School, Mrs. Florida worked in the accounting department at J.C Penney in New Castle. She was active in church in New Castle and also at Grace United Methodist Church in Warren.

Surviving are her daughters-in-law, Shirley Florida of Warren and Mary Florida of Murraysville, Pa.; four grandchildren: Janis L. (Mark) Boley of Vienna, Ohio, Randall W. (Donna) Florida of Warren, Russell E. (Norma) Florida of Warren, and Ian D. (Kelly) Florida of Murraysville, Pa; ten great-grandchildren: Stephanie Boley Meeker of Cincinnati, Ohio, Michael Boley of Vienna, Nicholas Florida of Savannah, Ga., Daniel Florida of Statesville, N.C., Erik, Jason, Carly, and Skylar Florida, all of Warren, and Hannah and Jonathan Robert Florida, both of Murraysville, Pa.; one great-great-grandchild, Trevor Florida of Statesville, N.C.; and a sister-in-law, Vivian Booth of New Castle.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Francis R. Florida, whom she married September 25, 1928 and who died in 1972; two sons, Robert G. and Wayne M. Florida; and three brothers: Joseph, Harold, and Harry Booth.

A memorial service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Glenn Hamilton of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Interment of her urn will follow at Castle View Memorial Gardens in New Castle. Friends may call 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Material contributions may be made to Tod Children’s Hospital, Attention: Mike Seelman, 500 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, Ohio 44501.
