| | | Harold Strong, 81, of Cortland, died late Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at home. He was born June 13, 1928 in Deerfield, Ohio, the son of F. Walter and Jean Gaynell (Sutcliffe) Strong, and had lived in Trumbull County since 1943.
A 1946 graduate of Leavittsburg High School, Mr. Strong served in the U.S. Army as a Signal Corps instructor. He graduated from Kent State University in 1964 with a B.S. in education. A member of Epsilon Pi Tau and Mensa, he taught two years in Vienna before going into industrial education, retiring from Cleveland Electric Illuminating in 1992. He was also a successful private investor.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Irene (Long) Strong, whom he married November 27, 1948; his son and daughter-in-law, Clifford A. and Lynn Strong of Chesapeake, Va.; and three grandchildren: Michelle, Erik, and Greg Strong. His parents precede him in death.
Graveside services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Deerfield Township Cemetery, with interment to follow. Material contributions may be made to Celtic Healthcare of Northeast Ohio, Hospice Unit, 3530 Belmont Ave. Suite 7, Youngstown, Ohio 44505.
