Florence T. Spelman, 107, formerly of Warren, died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring. She was born May 18, 1902 in Kinsman, the daughter of Fred Gordon and Nellie (Strickland) Webber, and had lived in Trumbull County most of her life.

Mrs. Spelman had worked as a telephone operator for the Windham Telephone Company as well as in private industry. A graduate of the Warren City High School on Monroe Street, she was a member of Tod Avenue United Methodist Church in Warren and the Sebring United Methodist Church. A member of United Methodist Women and Church Women United, she had taught Sunday School, enjoyed sewing, and had been a caregiver for many people in the Warren area.

Surviving are her children: Gordon S. Spelman of Anchorage, Alaska, Ruth L. Morton of Kalispell, Montana, Robert L. (Beverly) Spelman of Delaware, Ohio, and Laura M. (Harvey) Dean of Newton Falls; a daughter-in-law, Helen Spelman of Denver, Colo.; twenty-one grandchildren; forty-nine great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents; her former husband, Hayes S. Spelman, who died in 1979; her son, Charles F. Spelman; and two brothers, Phillip and Harold Webber.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Sebring United Methodist Church, 126 W. Indiana Ave., Sebring, Ohio 44672. Rev. Brian Dean and Mr. James Spelman, two of Florence’s grandsons, will officiate. Friends may call 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Interment will take place 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kinsman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made to the Oaks Foundation, Copeland Oaks Retirement Community, c/o Deborah Bradley, 715 S. Johnson Rd., Sebring, Ohio 44672.
