WESTFIELD - Virginia Lucille Slate, age 65, of West Lake Road, Van Buren, formerly of Westfield, died Monday, March 27, 2006 at Brooks Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. Virginia was born on May 20, 1940 in Brocton, NY the beautiful daughter of Frank T Slate, Sr. of Westfield and the late Beatrice R. (Sclafani) Slate. A resident of the Pomfret IRA group home for the past 14 years, Virginia loved to shop, attend Mass, eat out and sing; her favoriye song being “How much is that doggie in the window”. Virginia won a beautiful baby contest at age 3, shortly thereafter, she was stricken with an illness that left her handicapped. She loved it when her family visited, occasionally going on camping weekends at Letchworth State Park. She expected Spaghetti for dinner and Ice Cream for dessert. Grapes or a candy bar always brought a smile. Mrs. Slate was a member of St. Patricks Roman Catholic Church of Brocton She is survived by her father Frank T. Slate of Westfield, her two sisters: Maryann V. (James) Jeffries of Toledo, OH, Sandra R. (John) Cunningham of Westfield, NY and four brothers: Frank T. Slate, Jr. of Fredonia, NY, Timothy M. (Susan) Slate of Fredonia, NY, Donald M. (Sally) Slate of Courtney, and Edward J. Slate of Westfield, NY. Virginia is also survived by her roommate, Gloria, and her caregivers; Tammy, Cindy, Darlene, Amanda, Nancy, Mary, Peter, and Heidi, as well as by her friends, Elizabeth, Debbie, Irene and Mary Rose. She was preceded in death by her mother, Beatrice (Sclafani) Slate, who died on April 8, 2001. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY. and are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 11:00 AM at St. Patricks RC Church of Brocton, Celebrated by Fr. Robert G. Beiter. Interment Portland Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Partick’s Catholic Church, 12 Central ave., Brocton, NY 14716.
