Merrell Lee Bowen

Merrell Lee "Mid" Bowen, 82, of Elm Street, Westfield, NY, died unexpectedly, Monday, March 07, 2005 at Westfield Memorial Hospital in Westfield, New York, after being stricken at home

He was born on February 26, 1923 in the Town of Ripley / Volusia, New York the son of the late Albert “Lee" and Elizabeth (Reid) Bowen.

A Westfield resident most all his life, he was employed by the Village of Westfield for many years in the Streets Dept. He had been employed by A. Elmer Allen Farm Equipment Company as a mechanic prior to his employment with the Village. He loved the outdoors, nature and enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. He mostly enjoyed his family and his home.

He served with the US Marines during World War II having attained the rank of PVT 1st Class. He Enlisted on October 26, 1945 at Buffalo, NY and was Discharged on July 2, 1946 at Quantico, VA.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years,
Marguerite (Lillie) Bowen of Westfield, NY, his son, Edward Merrell Bowen of Portland, OR, his three daughters, Linda L. Fox of Westfield, NY, Janet Lou Drake of Euless, TX, and Judith Ann Marsh of Westfield, NY. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren, 10.5 Great Grandchildren, and his two sisters, Vivan Jordan and Rea Rolando both of Santa Maria, CA

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert “Lee" Lee Bowen, and his mother, Elizabeth Reid Bowen, his granddaughter, Barbara Ann Brooker, his brother Russell Bowen and his sister Ruth Moore.

Visitation will not be observed

Funeral services will be held privately at the MASON Funeral Home. Rev. Matthew Golibersuch of United Methodist Church of Westfield will be officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in Westfield.
