| | | MARY ELIZABETH BOLDEN ANTHONY, age 90 years, a resident of 27 Key Street, Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life late Monday evening, March 31, 2003, at her home, following a brief illness.
She was born Wednesday, July 3, 1912, at Sawyerville, Alabama, a daughter of the late Alfred F. Bolden and Ellen Mosley Bolden. On September 2, 1939, Monterey, Virginia, she was married to Eugene C. Anthony, who preceded her in death August 3, 1985. Surviving are three sisters, Sarah Darcus, Barrackville, Gladys Thompson, Yadkinville, North Carolina, Katherine Blake, Springfield, Massachusetts and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her husband are one brother, Edward A. Bolden and three sisters, Rosale Blake, Florence Robinson and Billie F. Scott.
Elizabeth attended the schools of Mannington and Fairmont, was a graduate of Dunbar High School at Fairmont, with the Class of 1930 and was a well-known Nanny and Housekeeper for many families in the Elkins area. She was a member of the H. W. Daniel’s Post # 29, American Legion Auxiliary, the Benson Chapter # 17, Order of the Eastern Star, the Lady Shriners, the Order of the Golden Circle, the Virginia Chapel A.M.E. Church where she was a member of the Board of Trustees and was a Past President of the Missionary Society. She was well-known cook being especially noted for her delicious pies.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home, 120 First Street, Elkins, WV, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM, Friday. On Saturday, Mrs. Anthony will be moved to the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, 450 Randolph Avenue, Elkins, West Virginia, where final rites will be conducted at 11 AM. Pastor Ramona Woods and the Reverend Jeff Falter will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, West Virginia.
