| | | JACK DEMPSEY ADAMS, age 79 years, a resident of Proctor, West Virginia, and formerly a resident of Bemis, lost his courageous battle against diabetes and kidney disease on Monday, July 25, 2005 at Crestview Care Center at Saint Clairsville, Ohio.
He was born on Tuesday, March 29, 1926 at Bemis, a son of Eva L. Smith Adams, Moundsville and the late Kennie A. Adams.
He was a retired safety inspector at the Consol Energy McElroy Coal Mine and a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Graysville, West Virginia. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed teaching many people to hunt in his beloved mountains and to fly fish in his brook trout streams. Jack was inducted into the West Virginia Turkey Hunters Hall of Fame in 1997. For many years running, he was the West Virginia Grand Champion Plug and Fly Caster at the Mountain State Forest Festival. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Helen Ailstock Adams, two sons, Kenneth Richard and wife, Sue, Parkersburg, West Virginia, and John L. Adams, Moundsville, West Virginia, two daughters, Sue White, Moundsville, West Virginia, and Debbie Adams, Bemis, West Virginia, seven grandchildren, Letitia Walker and husband, Joey, Kristen Johnson and husband, Tony, Michelle Carpenter and husband, Tony, Jacqie Adams, Levi and Grant White, and Thomas Adams, four step grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, Rain Carpenter, Tori Walker, Adam Walker, Braden Walker, Kendra Walker, Isabella Walker, Carlie Johnson, and Miles Johnson.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 3 PM to 9 PM with a celebration of his life at 7 PM with the Reverend Eddie Willis and a friend, Jerry Yoho officiating at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville, West Virginia 26041.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Saturday from 6 to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel on Sunday, July 31, 2005 at 2 PM. The Reverend Jonas Johnson, Jr. will officiate and interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens (formerly the I.O.O.F. Cemetery) at Elkins. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the Graysville United Methodist Church, in care of Alice Dunlap, RR 4, Box 94, Moundsville, West Virginia 26041.
