WINIFRED MAUREEN “BETTY” MARSTILLER BARRICK, age 86 years, a resident of 117 Grandview Avenue, Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life Friday afternoon, August 20, 2004, at the Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins, West Virginia. She had been in declining health.
She was born Saturday, September 22, 1917, at Elkins, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Dillon Marstiller and Maud Leah Flesher Marstiller. On June 1, 1939, at Elkins, West Virginia, she was married to R. Gordon Barrick, who preceded her in death January 25, 1983.Surviving are one sister, Louise Marstiller McCauley, Bridgeport, and seven nieces and nephews, Vivica Burr Altobelli, Orlando, Florida; Nancy McCauley Aucremanne, Bridgeport; Jeffrey Burr, Wilmington, North Carolina; Linda Kay Barrick Lehman, Syracuse, New York; Margaret "Peggy" Stokes Nielson, Albany, Georgia; Hugh Gregorie Stokes, III, San Juan, Puerto Rico; Ann Boulware Stokes, Juneau, Alaska; two great nieces and ten great nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband are one sister, Cora Lorraine “Toots” Burr.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School and Davis and Elkins College, was a member of the former Phi Sigma Theta, was a member of Chi Omega, the Davis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a supporter of Davis & Elkins College and was a member of the College Aid. She was a member and past president of the Elkins Woman’s Club and a member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she was a Life member of the Presbyterian Women and had served as Past President at both the local and West Virginia Presbytery Level.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 7 PM, Wednesday. On Thursday, August 26, 2004, Mrs. Barrick will be moved to the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church where final rites will be conducted at 11 AM. The Reverend Jeff Falter will officiate and entombment will follow at the Maplewood Memorial Mausoleum at Elkins, West Virginia. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2 Player Club Drive, Suite # 104, Charleston, West Virginia 25311.
