| | | IDA ERNESTINE “JACKIE” BAXTER, age 81 years, a resident of 524 Center Street, Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life Sunday evening, November 23, 2003, at her home. She had been in declining health although death was unexpected.
She was born Monday, April 3, 1922 at Frank, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Mozell Thompson and Lillie Jane Jones Thompson. On October 15, 1945 at Monterey, Virginia she was married to Charles Donald Baxter who preceded her in death on October 16, 1970. Surviving are one aunt, Annabell Tibbs, Elkins, two nieces Debbie Johnson, Kansas City, Missouri, Scottie Baxter, New York, two nephews Michael Waller, United States Navy, Retired, Martinsburg and Daniel Sturkey and wife Sonnetta, Columbus, Ohio.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband are one brother, Nathan Waller and one sister, Louise Dunn.
Jackie was a graduate of Riverside High School of Elkins and the Davis Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Davis Memorial Hospital for fifteen years retiring due to two heart attacks. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church, was member and secretary of the Son’s and Daughter’s Club of the Church, was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Church and was a member of the Board of Director’s of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 to 9 PM, Friday. Final Rites will be conducted at the Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, November 29, 2003 at 1 PM. The Rev. Terry Cannon will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins, West Virginia.
