WILLIAM BROWN AMBROSE, age 85 years, a resident of the Moore Community, Parsons, WV departed this life early Sunday morning, May 10, 2009 at the Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.
He was born Monday, November 12, 1923 at Hendricks, WV, a son of the late James Burr Ambrose and Mable H. Brown Ambrose. On January 20, 1970 at Red House, Md, he was united in marriage to the former Marlene F. Lantz, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert Douglas Lantz and wife Cynthia of West Milford, WV, and James Thomas Ambrose and wife Melanie of the Moore Community, Parsons, eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
He is the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by one daughter, Ann Marie Cross; one brother, James Burr Ambrose, Jr.; four sisters, Hazel Mateer, Elizabeth Cosman, Mildred Allender and Marjorie Pownall.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1942 and he attended Potomac State College. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, 413 AAA Gun Battalion, serving during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge and D-Day. He was a construction worker. He was a Sunday School Teacher for many years and a member of the United Methodist Church at Hendricks. He was an avid fisherman and a great historian story teller.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 11 AM. The Reverend John Morrison and Rev. Loren Metzner will officiate and interment will follow at the McNeeley Cemetery at Hendricks, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion and the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker Co. Veterans Assoc. will conduct full military rites.
