| | | MALVERN F. BECK, age 68 years, a former resident of Parsons, West Virginia and a more recent resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas, West Virginia, departed this life early Monday morning, October 20, 2003 at the nursing home. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to complications of Alzheimer's disease.
He was born December 15, 1934, at Parsons, West Virginia, a son of the late David Palmer Beck and Gertrude Hebb Beck. He had never married.
Surviving are one sister, Margaret "Skeeter" Slater, Riverside, California and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Burdette.
Malvern attended the schools of Uniontown, Pennsylvania. He worked for the former E. J. Price Grocery and Feed, the former Shirley's Restaurant and Flossie's Restaurant, all of Parsons. He was an avid bicycle enthusiast and had a great love for radios and country music, and loved all animals.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM. On Wednesday afternoon, October 22, 2003, Mr. Beck will be moved to the Parsons City Cemetery for a graveside service at 2 PM. Pastor Allen D. Crosten will officiate and interment will follow.
