| | | BERYL GENEVA CHANNELL BARR, age 85 years, a former resident of Maple Street, Elkins, and more recently, a resident of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, November 12, 2008 at the nursing home.
She was born Friday, April 27, 1923 at Valley Head, WV a daughter of the late George Washington Channell and Russie Missouri Channell. On December 22, 1950, at Valley Head, she was married to Leo Jackson Barr, who preceded her in death December 23, 2007. Surviving are two sons, Gary L. Barr and wife Michelle, Elkins; Danny A. Barr and wife Cindy, Inwood; one daughter, Karen Betler and husband George, Easton, MD; one sister, Jessie Fike, Keyser; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were three brothers, Glenn, Willard, and Gale Channell and three sisters, Marie Bolyard, Wilda Ware, and Georgia Channell.
Beryl was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School with the class of 1941, was a homemaker, had worked at various restaurants at Valley Head, had worked as a waitress for the White Front Restaurant and the Lamplight Restaurant, to which she later owned and operated, and had worked as a cook for Michael’s Restaurant. She attended the Sound of Triumph Church.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 to 8 PM, Friday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 11 AM. The Reverend Ron Phillips will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV.
