LEROY SYLVANUS ADKINS, age 77 years, a resident of Hendricks, WV., departed this life Tuesday afternoon, August 5, 2008 at the Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas, WV.
He was born Saturday, December 27, 1930 at Birch River, Clay County, a son of the late Daniel Morgan Adkins and Goldie Gertrude Davis Adkins.
Surviving are two sister; Rachel Feathers and husband Robert of Rocky Mountain, NC., and Rosie Baer of Gettysburg, Pa., two adopted grandchildren; Heather Lowther Ritchie and husband Shane of Jackson, Ky., and John Lowther of Hendricks and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are four brothers; Lloyd, Leo, Leonard and Leon Adkins and five sisters; Ruby, Ruth, Roxanne, Lillian and Rebalee.
He attended the schools of Clay County. He was a coal miner. He was an employee of General Motors in Baltimore, Md., for thirty years, retiring to Hendricks in 1985. He was well versed in the bible and was a Christian. He had no children of his own, although he was loved by all the neighborhood children and all who knew him. He was an avid rabbit hunter and outdoorsman.
Mr. Adkins memorial service will be conducted on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 2 PM. at the Free Methodist Church in Hendricks, WV. The Reverend Harley DeLeurere will officiate. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for LEROY SYLVANUS ADKINS.
