| | | ELIZABETH PHARES ARBOGAST, age 80 years, a lifelong resident of Glady, and for the past several years a resident of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center departed this life Saturday afternoon, July 12, 2008 at the nursing home following an extended illness. Death was attributed to Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was born Thursday, March 8, 1928 at Elkins, a daughter of the late Sherd Phares and Erma Smith Phares. She was married to Jesse Minden Arbogast, who preceded her in death on April 22, 1982, after forty-eight years of marriage.
Surviving her are two sons, Jimmy M. Arbogast, Standardsville, VA and Ricky D. Arbogast and wife, Rebecca, Roanoke, VA, four daughters, Beverly Elza Dowell, Dundalk, MD, Jane Elizabeth Carpenter and husband, Warren, Elkins, Peggy Nash Thompson and husband David, Buckhannon, and Sherry Beverage and husband, Bob , Standardsville, VA, five sisters, Julia Pinter, Mabel Bernstein, Nancy Jones and husband, Buster, Judy Chatham and husband, Bradford all of Maryland, and Gladys Marfield, Bowden, five grandchildren, Barbara Price, Salisbury, MD, Shawn Carpenter and wife, Thais, and Timothy Nash, all of Elkins, Staci Beverage and Jessica Hoffman and husband, Josh, all of Standardsville, VA, and ten great grandchildren, Lacie Elza, Mason Price, Sierra Dacre, Katrina Carpenter, Natasha Carpenter, Nicholas Carpenter, Brooke Nash, Malik Mallory, Ryan Hoffman, and Emma Hoffman.
Preceding her in death was one son, Jerry Lee Arbogast, three brothers, Mage, Robert, and Eddie, and two sisters, Lynette Sykes and Nellie Shifflett.
She attended the schools of Randolph County, was a homemaker, and a member of the Glady Church of the Brethren. She was a very kind and loving person whose greatest joy was taking care of her family. She enjoyed cooking, making homemade bread, canning, being outdoors working in her vegetable and flower gardens, and sewing. She was a devoted mother and friend, and she will be dearly missed by all.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Tuesday from 5 until 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 11 AM. The Reverend Steve Shifflett will officiate and interment will follow at the Glady Cemetery. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the Glady Church of the Brethren, Glady, WV 26268.
