JOSIE THELMA KINSEY ARBOGAST, age 89 years, a resident of Sixteenth Street, Elkins, WV departed this life late Tuesday evening, March 18, 2008 at the Valentines Personal Care Home at Elkins, WV.
She was born Thursday, April 18, 1918 at Simpson, Taylor County, WV a daughter of the late Sidney O. Kinsey and Lucy Pearl Davis Kinsey. On January 16, 1945 at Parsons, WV she was married to Ernst Arthur Arbogast who preceded her in death May 4, 1975. Surviving are one sister in law, Eleanor Parrish Kinsey, Omaha NE; two nephews, Mark L. Kinsey, Omaha, NE; Dennis Flanagan, Colorado Springs, CO; three nieces, Barbara Campbell, Seneca, SC; Particia Kenney, FL; Sydney McMarrow, Omaha, NE.
Preceding her in death are two brothers, Eulin L. Kinsey and Howard Parks Kinsey.
Josie attended the Gabes Fork School and Simpson High School. She was a graduate of Flemington High School with the Class of 1936 and the Elkins City Hospital School of Nursing with the Class of 1943. She was a registered nurse having worked at the Kerchival Clinic at Kingwood, the Tucker County Hospital at Parsons where she worked as an Operating Room Nurse for sixteen years, the Peninsula General Hospital at Salisbury, MD as an Operating Room Nurse for two years, the Memorial General Hospital at Elkins as an Assistant Director of Nursing, retiring in 1983 and had worked with Dr. Paul Snedegar with the Glaucoma Clinics in Randolph and Barbour Counties.
She was a member of the American Nurse’s Association since 1943, the WV Nurse’s Association, where she also served on the Board of Directors, the District 7 Nurse’s Association, the Comprehensive Health Council for Region 7, the WV Heart Association, and the WV Lung Association. She was a member of the Emma Scott Garden Club, the Davis & Elkins College Aid, the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center Auxiliary, in 1981 was selected as Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Woman’s Club and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 to 8 PM, Friday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 10 AM. The Reverend Doctor Marvin L. Parli will officiate and interment will follow at the Simpson Cemetery at Simpson, WV.
