DONALD NEIL BALLHEIM, USNR, age 60 years, a resident of High Street, Elkins, WV departed this life Saturday afternoon, February 2, 2008 at the Charleston Area Medical Center General Division at Charleston, WV.
He was born Saturday, April 12, 1947 at Lexington, NE, a son of the late Donald Edwin Ballheim and Minnie Estelle Weatherford Ballheim. On November 19, 1971 at Lexington, NE, he was married to the former Deborah Nadine Golden, who survives. Also surviving is one son, Jeremy Christopher Ballheim, Elkins, one daughter, Dawn Marie Ballheim, Elkins, two brothers, Gary Ballheim and companion, Sherry, and Daryl Ballheim and wife, Linda, all of Lexington, NE, one sister, Dorothy Hagen and husband, Butch, Lexington, NE, one grandson, Anthonie Neil Ballheim, and several nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of Lexington High School, had taken vocational courses from Advance Air Conditioning and Refrigeration School, and had retired from the United States Navy with twenty-one years of service, having served during Vietnam and as an engineman. He had also worked as a custodian for the United States Postal Service, a security guard for the Davis Memorial Hospital, and at the time of his death, he was a tallyman for Coastal Lumber Company, where he had been employed for many years. He enjoyed working with Balsa Wood.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins Thursday, February 7, 2008 from 11AM to 1PM, the funeral hour. The Reverend Mike House will officiate and interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens, (formerly the I.O.O.F. Cemetery) at Elkins, WV, where full military honors will be accorded by members of the H.W. Daniel’s Post #29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
