| | | LEO JACKSON BARR, age 82 years, a resident of Maple Street, Elkins, WV departed this life Sunday afternoon, December 23, 2007 at the Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born Thursday, November 26, 1925 at St. George, WV a son of the late James J. Barr and Georgia Irene Ashby Barr. On December 22, 1950 he was married to the former Beryl Geneva Channell, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Gary L. Barr and wife Michelle, Elkins; Danny A. Barr and wife Cindy, Inwood; one step daughter, Karen Betler and husband George, Easton, MD; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Leo was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Preceding him in death are three brothers, Patrick, Arbie and Gib Barr and one sister Lucille Corley.
Leo was a graduate of Parsons High School and was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He had worked as a Truck Driver for the Dutch Oven Bakery and Hogan’s Transfer and Storage and later as a Coal Miner. He was a Carman, Welder and Inspector for the Western Maryland Railroad from which he retired. He attended the Sound of Triumph Church and loved camping.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Friday, December 28, 2007 at 11 AM. Pastor Tony Duck and James P. Douglas will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV, where the H. W. Daniel’s Post # 29, American Legion will present the American Flag. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for LEO JACKSON BARR.
