Helen Florence Borowski, age 91, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois formerly of Cicero, Illinois, died on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at her great nieces home in Mt. Carroll. Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois. A memorial fund has been established in Helen’s memory.
Helen was born on September 28, 1918, in Marianna, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Anthony and Demicella (Shvdines) Barkus. She grew up on a farm in Michigan. When she turned fourteen she left for Chicago. Helen went to work as a Housekeeper and Nanny for children. On October 28, 1944, Helen married Raymond Francis Borowski and was happily married for 39 years. Raymond died on October 31, 1983.
Helen worked for Mar’s Candy Company for thirty-eight and a half years. Helen’s life was full of happiness. She was a very hard worker all of her life. Helen was always there for all of her sisters, nieces and nephews. She was a very generous, kind, soft-spoken Christian all of her life. Helen lived in Cicero and North Hillside, Illinois until coming to Mt. Carroll to live with her great niece.
Helen is survived by three sisters, Aldonna Willison, Mary Provenzo and Magdelina Barkus, all of Michigan; several nieces and nephews; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great grandchildren.
Helen is preceded death by her husband, Raymond; three brothers, Albert, Charles, and Paul Barkus; and one sister, Anna Palapa.
