Barbara L. Houseman, 62, of Apple River, IL, formerly of Hanover, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2009. Barb was born on August 29, 1947 in Savanna, IL, the daughter of Leo R. Whalen and Esther (Yackley) Whalen. Barb graduated from Hanover High School and completed her R.N. degree at St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Rockford, IL. She married Donald D. Houseman on April 12, 1969 and recently celebrated 40 years of marriage. In addition to being an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Barb worked as a nurse and hospital billing consultant over thirty years. Of her many amazing accomplishments, Barb was most proud of her family. She is survived by her husband - Don, her children - Ben and Gretchen and her grandchildren - Skylar and Hunter, her sisters - Marianne (Gerald) Murphy and Cathy Whalen Eisenhofer and her brothers - Wayne (Paula) Whalen and Bill (Sue) Whalen. There are no plans for services at this time. A memorial fund has been established in her honor at The Apple River Bank, 215 Jefferson Street, Hanover, IL 61041.
